Rachel is in the kitchen, warm and safe.

Her father is in the trenches, cold and afraid.

When Rachel makes biscuits for her father, she adds the love, warmth and hope that he needs.

This is a touching story of a family torn apart by war but brought together through the powerful simplicity of Anzac biscuits.

ANZAC Biscuits delicately entwines the desolation of life on the frontline of war with the tenderness of life on the home front.

About the Author

Phil Cummings is the youngest of eight children and grew up in Port Broughton, South Australia. Life as a kid was full of fabulous adventures and the many stories in his Danny Allen series draw from his experiences growing up on a farm. David Cox is an award-winning author and illustrator. He grew up in outback Queensland but went England to study art at St Martins School of Art. After eight years in the UK and Europe, David returned to Australia and worked in both publishing and the newspaper industry. In 1978, he was awarded the Walkley Award for newspaper illustration. He now works as a full-time illustrator and writer and lives in Brisbane.

            Comments about Anzac Biscuits:

The book was amazing to read to my Year 1 class. The text put our ANZAC Day service into perspective. The relationship between making the biscuits and the war front was extremely effective. The book generated so many questions about the topic. There is now a queue waiting in quiet and paired reading time.
