The white light surrounded her, exuding from the ground within the circle. The mist rose towards the sky to form a billowing cloud. From within the largest stone a ball of blue light steadily made its way towards her.

Late one evening, a car accident leaves Tory - daughter of a prominent history professor - stranded near a ring of stones in the English countryside. She resolves to spend the night at the sacred site; a black belt in Tae-kwon-do, Tory holds little fear for her safety.

But across the vortex of time and space, she is being watched. The Merlin knows of the legend Tory is to become, and through the wisdom of the Old Ones, teleports her back to the Dark Age.

Prince Maelgwn of Gwynedd and his band of knights stumble across this mysterious woman dressd in jeans and leather jacket. Believing she is the witch of the stones, they threaten to kill her. Rising to her own defence, Tory challenges the Prince's champion to unarmed combat. With her superior fighting skill she easily overwhelms the warrior, winning the admiration of the Prince, and changing the course of British history forever.

Comments about Ancient Future : The Dark Age:

The first book in the first trilogy of my favorite books of all time (4 Trilogies in total set in the same universe). I've read almost every popular fantasy and science fiction series and Traci's books are by far my favourite. The characters are so diverse and relatable and so well written that they feel like real people. These books combine actual history and common myths/folklore with fantasy and science fictions aspects. These are so perfectly woven together in to the story that the alternate histories introduced seem plausible, which I feel really adds to my immersion in the story. I read this series at least once a year and never get bored of it. Could not recommend more highly to fantasy/science fiction readers.

Comments about Ancient Future : The Dark Age:

What attracted me to this book was the idea of stone circles - something that has always stayed with me, because of my fascination with Stonehenge in Salisbury. Upon entering this book, I was in a different world, it held my interest for many hours. I read this every chance I got - the story of Tory and Maelgwn is spectacular, and I am eager to read the other books that follow on and accompany this book.

Comments about Ancient Future : The Dark Age:

This is a book that draws you in right from the start! I first read this 1996 shortly after it was published, and I have continued to read it again and again every few months since then. It's the kind of book that you can read anywhere, anytime, and fall in love with the characters all over again everytime you read it. It always feels like you're coming home. My copy now has the cover hanging off it from over-reading. Be prepared to get the rest of the series too, and have them ready to go straight away!!

Comments about Ancient Future : The Dark Age:

I first read this novel in 2000 when I was in grade 10. I could not put it down. It may have been the young romantic schoolgirl in me but the mix of supernatural, romance and history was epic. I've re-read this book over 30 times probably more I've actually lost count. The main character Tory is an inspiration for women. She's charismatic, a fighter, caring, compassionate, brave and such a great role model for young girl readers. I would have my future girls (and boys - because the novels male characters portray such noteworthy qualities which I would want in my children). You won't regret reading it. PS The classic 90's references are good to read now, very reminiscent.
