Two married couples: Kate and Cary, Cressida and Luke. Four people who meet, click, and become firm friends. But then Kate and Luke discover a growing attraction, which becomes an obsession. 'A subtle, moving and perceptive story of love, loss and hope.' - Sydney Morning Herald

'A fascinating dissection of infidelity told from the point of view of two couples. Voyeuristic in its storytelling, After the Fall is a gripping insight into the anatomy of an affair, in the tradition of Anita Shreve, Josephine Hart and Anne Tyler.' - Maitland Mercury

'Ladd illustrates just what makes human interactions so difficult.' - Oz Baby Boomers

'An engrossing dissection of an illicit affair. The heady passion, the stolen moments, all the cliches are there but in Ladd's hands they are anything but trite as the reader is swept along by the intensity of the characters' emotions.' - Townsville Bulletin

'A dissection of deceit and the heady days of new love.' - Bayside Bulletin

In The Press

“After The Fall examines two marriages racing toward collision. Author Kylie Ladd, using precise and crystalline language, looks through each side of the prism, bringing forth all points of view with raw honesty. The reader will peek out between covered eyes as they watch these husbands and wives in denial singe the ones they love.”
Randy Susan Meyers, author of The Murderer’s Daughters

"[An] accomplished debut novel... lush, often beautiful, prose. Vivid language makes each page a joy to read."
Kirkus Reviews

“Starting an affair is like falling- there’s the initial thrilling sense of plunging, followed by out-of-control plummeting, and, inevitably, pain. That’s how author Kylie Ladd describes it in this story of a friendship between two couples that ends in an affair. Told from the perspective of each person, the book has a deliciously voyeuristic feel that will have you hooked.”
Cosmopolitan

“This gripping novel examines the nitty-gritty of the affair and how it affects each person involved. From gentle Cary, who was hoping to start a family with Kate, to Cressida, coping with her dying father and her husband’s infidelity, to play-boy Luke and indecisive Kate, all four react in very different ways. I found it hard to put this book down, and it stayed with me long after I had finished it... five stars”
NZ Girl

“… a subtle, moving and perceptive story of love, loss and hope”
Sydney Morning Herald

“An engrossing dissection of am illicit affair… the reader is swept along by the intensity of the character’s emotions. A fascinating insight… Riveting.”
Townsville Bulletin

In The Press

'Kylie Ladd’s debut After the Fall is a perfect example of the sort of book I shouldn’t begin reading late at night. It’s the sort of book that robs me of my sleep, although not because it’s full of harrowing scenes and terrifying monsters, but rather because, like a packet of Tim Tams, it just demands to be finished.' After the Fall is an intriguing tale, told from multiple perspectives – with the four central characters each giving their first person perspective in alternating chapters, and occasional chapters from the perspective of a friend, Tim. This format, and the sequencing of its telling allows a dissection of the events leading up to the affair, the affair itself and the aftermath, with the reader allowed to see the perspective of all participants, though still able to build differing sympathies for the varying characters. A fascinating read.
