Renowned cook, Sally Wise has always wanted her own cooking school, and her own farm, where she could grow the things she wants to cook with. One day she and her husband came across a property in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley with an orchard full of fruit trees, and a funny old chalet/cabin out the back. A plan began to take shape... In this, her latest book, Sally shares the 100 or so recipes she’s gathered over a year of growing, cooking, setting up school and house and managing an eccentric household of family and other animals. Like Nigel Slater’s Kitchen Diaries, and Sally’s early best-seller, A Year In A Bottle, this is a charming portrait of tree-change and a cookbook to treasure.

About the Author

Sally Wise regularly appears on Saturday mornings on ABC Local Radio 936 Hobart. She has a weekly newspaper column, and owns and runs a catering business as well as teaching cookery to high school students and hospitality and TAFE students.

Comments about A Year on the Farm:

With its produce filled cover, this book reads more like a diary than a cookbook or biography. It's also the story of her fabulous cooking school, as she tells about the trials and triumphs of starting her new venture.
Sally starts her journey in a Wintry July when they relocate to their tree-change property, a small farm in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania.

Great book! Full of lovely stories and fantastic recipes. I especially liked finding out that even very good cooks don't always achieve perfection.
